Author Royalties

Essential10 pays 80% of the available royalty for each book sales channel. We only take a 20% fee. In the digital publishing world, royalties can be complicated and variable. That is why we created this page with a royalty calculator for authors.

The available royalty is the amount of money we receive after the Book Seller has taken its fees.

Essential10 Bookstore: We sell the eBook (i.e., pdf format) and, starting in February 2010 the iPhone book within the Essential10 iPhone Reader. We charge no additional fee for this service above our standard fee schedule. Thus, you get 80% of the available royalty for all of the books sold.

Essential10 iPhone App: Starting in July 2010, the Essential10 iPhone app will be available on the iPhone and books through the Essential10 bookstore. We charge no additional fee for this service above our standard 20% fee. Thus, you get 80% of the book’s selling price for all of these books sold.

Amazon Kindle: Amazon pays publishers 35% of the sales price of the book. For Amazon Kindle books, your royalty is 15% of the book sale’s price (100% - Amazon 65% - Essential10 20%).

Apple iPhone App: Apple pays publishers 70% of the sales price of the book for individual Essential10 Book applications. For iPhone Personal App books, your royalty is 50% of the book sale’s price (100% - Apple 30% - Essential10 20%).

Barnes & Noble Nook: We are currently establishing these relationships and will know the royalty available soon. Check back for details.

The spreadsheet below shows you how much money you will make based on sales. You can edit the Book Sales Price of $1.99 with your book’s price. Then enter the number of books you think you will sell for each Book Seller.

Essential10 consolidates all royalties from all sales sources into a single Royalty Report. These reports are visible in your Essential10 author’s account.

Royalty payments are made within 30 days of the end of each quarter. If you made more that $25 in royalties, then a check will be sent to you or your PayPal account will receive a transfer. If you made less than $25, the royalties will roll over to the next quarter.

There are no advances paid for books.
